What It Means to Become Parents

Across From the World Trade Center

Becoming parents would mean the world to us.

To us, being a parent means being a consistent, loving guide who nurtures a child's growth while providing security and support. It's about creating a safe environment where a child can explore, make mistakes, and develop their unique identity. Parenting means balancing structure with flexibility, teaching important values while allowing room for a child's individual personality to flourish. Most importantly, it means making a lifelong commitment to putting someone else's needs in front of our own and finding joy in watching them grow.

What we expect to like most about being parents is witnessing a child's development and discoveries. We look forward to seeing the world through fresh eyes—whether it's introducing them to new experiences, answering curious questions, or celebrating milestones both big and small. We are so excited to experience holidays through our child's eyes and create new family traditions. We anticipate finding fulfillment in the everyday moments: sharing meals together, bedtime stories, weekend adventures, and even navigating challenges as a family. We're excited about building meaningful traditions and memories that will shape our family's unique story.

Our Pets

All of Our Dogs on the Couch

Our home is filled with love, largely thanks to our 6 rescue dogs who have become cherished family members. Our journey with animal rescue began 10 years ago when we started fostering dogs who needed homes through a local shelter. Over time, we've kept the ones we couldn't live without, and have built an amazing pack of loyal, well-trained companions who bring endless joy to our lives.

Ashley Mae (12 years) - Our Red Heeler mix and wise pack leader. Despite her age, she remains active and spirited, and is incredibly smart.

Charlie Boy (10.5 years) - Our gentle Lab mix who may not be the brightest, but has the biggest heart. He's our lovable couch potato.

Jemma Belle (10.5 years) - Our affectionate Whippet mix who adores everyone she meets.

Ava Jane (9.5 years) - Our Blue Heeler/Shepherd mix who exemplifies loyalty. We call her our "Nanny dog" for her natural nurturing instincts with puppies and her protective nature with her family.

Olivia Rose (7.5 years) - Our Black and Tan Coonhound who came to us through an unforgettable experience. We fostered her pregnant mother Maggie and helped deliver all 13 of her puppies in our home. After finding loving homes for the others through our local shelter partnerships, we couldn't part with Olivia. (Scott's parents adopted Maggie, so it was a family experience.)

Lexi Joy (4 years) - Our tiny Blue Heeler mix with the biggest personality. She's the playful clown of our pack who keeps everyone entertained and reminds us daily of the importance of laughter in family life.

Education We Will Provide

Scott at a Build My Future Event

Education is a core value in our home, and we're committed to supporting our child's learning journey in multiple ways. We believe in providing quality schooling from early childhood through higher education, but we also understand that learning extends far beyond the classroom.

At home, we plan to create an environment rich with educational opportunities through books, engaging activities, and meaningful conversations. We value experiential learning and look forward to exploring museums, zoos, libraries, and cultural performances. These experiences will help our child develop a broader understanding of the world and different perspectives.

We believe in nurturing both academic and practical skills. Scott's background as a trained chef offers a natural opportunity to teach cooking, while our gardening experience will allow us to share the satisfaction of growing food. Kiley's background will help foster social skills and a strong sense of community, teaching our child to feel comfortable in all kinds of social settings. Scott can build or fix just about anything, so our child will learn hands-on problem solving, creativity, and practical confidence. We'll also emphasize life skills like household repairs, basic car maintenance, and managing money. As lifelong animal lovers and rescue advocates, we'll teach kindness and empathy toward animals through our everyday actions, including volunteering at local shelters.

Whether through music, sports, or other hobbies, we'll support our child in discovering their interests and developing talents that bring them joy. Our goal is to raise a well-rounded individual who approaches life with curiosity, capability, and enthusiasm for learning.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Kansas City, Missouri, in a neighborhood we've grown to love for its strong sense of community. We've lived in our home for over 10 years. Our area offers plenty for families - from the neighborhood parks and nearby swimming pools to various local events throughout the year. We're fortunate to be surrounded by many families with children, and there's always activity around us - kids playing outside on nice days or sledding down the hill near our home when snow falls.

Our 3-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom ranch home (2,000 sq. ft.) provides comfortable space for family life. We have put so much care into making our house feel warm and welcoming by thoughtfully decorating it, and we especially love decorating it for the holidays! We have a large fenced backyard where a child can play safely, a huge basement that we can create more living space with, a big back patio, two living rooms- including a family room that's become our favorite gathering spot. Our child will have their own room that we are so excited to decorate for them. During summer, our gardens come alive with flowers, herbs, and vegetables that we enjoy tending together. We regularly get told by passing people walking dogs that we have the prettiest, and most well-tended house on the street.

Our Extended Families

Kiley's Family

Our extended network of loving family and friends has given us both the confidence and support to become adoptive parents. Our child would be welcomed and cherished by our entire community. Kiley has a large extended family in Colorado Springs, and Scott's big Italian family is spread throughout Connecticut and other parts of the east coast. In the Kansas City area, Kiley's stepmother and siblings live nearby, and they are very excited to help us welcome a new member of our family. Kiley's stepsister just had her first baby, and we look forward to raising our babies close in age. Holiday are especially meaningful, with traditions that blend both of our family backgrounds.

Scott's Family

We have many members of our chosen family right here in Kansas City, with a wonderful group of friends. With them, we have regular gatherings—from summer barbecues to spontaneous weekend get-togethers—and our child will form lasting bonds with other children while being surrounded by positive role models.

From Us to You

First and foremost, we just want to say: you are seen, you are brave, and you are so deeply loved.

We can only imagine the strength it takes to even be reading these words right now. Wherever your heart is at this moment, please know we are wrapping you up in kindness, respect, and gratitude.

We're Kiley and Scott - two best friends who fell in love, built a life together, and are now dreaming (with our whole hearts) of the day we get to become parents. We began dating in 2010, married in 2014, and have been building a life full of love, laughter, and adventure ever since. We share a home that's colorful and warm, and we've filled it with everything that matters most: family, friends, faith, laughter, and a pack of wonderful rescue dogs who think they run the place. (Spoiler alert: they kinda do.)

Our road to parenthood hasn't been an easy one. After nearly a decade of battling infertility, multiple rounds of IVF, and the heartbreaking loss of two sweet baby girls, our hearts were shattered - but not our hope. Adoption wasn't our original path, but love has a funny way of widening the map. Through our losses, we realized that being parents wasn't about biology. It was about building a family grounded in unconditional love, boundless support, and fierce devotion. It's about who we get to love, not how they come to us.

And we are so ready.

If you choose us, your little one's life will be filled with wonder. Please know that your child will be raised in a home bursting with love, laughter, and adventures big and small. They'll have bedtime stories, dance parties in the kitchen, backyard camping adventures, and airplane rides to places near and far. We're the kind of people who make an ordinary Tuesday feel like a party, who chase the biggest sledding hills on snowy days, and who believe that ice cream is a great cure for a bad day. Your little one will grow up knowing the magic of travel - exploring new places, cultures, and ideas - while also having deep roots in a home where kindness, empathy, and a love of animals are everyday values. They'll learn to be kind, curious, brave, and fiercely loved - not just by us, but by an entire circle of friends and family cheering them on every step of the way.

We're passionate about rescue work and have opened our home (and hearts) to many foster dogs over the years. This means your child will not only have two humans who adore them, but also a lively little crew of furry companions who will be their built-in best friends and protectors.

We want you to know that your place in this child's story will always be honored.

We are committed to sending letters and photos so you can watch them grow, if that is your wish. We are also open to email, phone calls, and visits - whatever feels right and comfortable for you. This is your story too, and we will always hold space for you with love and respect.

Above all, we are so grateful you are even reading these words. Whatever decision you make, we are cheering you on with our whole hearts. You are making a brave, selfless, and beautiful choice for your baby, and we hope - with everything in us - that when you picture their future, you might see us in it.

With love, admiration, and so much hope,

Scott & Kiley
